Paraffin types
Paraffin wax is a type of wax that is commonly used in candle making and other applications. There are several different types of paraffin wax, each with their own unique properties and characteristics. Some common types of paraffin wax include:
- Fully Refined Paraffin Wax: This is the most commonly used type of paraffin wax in candle making. It is refined to remove impurities and has a high melting point, making it ideal for creating long-lasting candles.
- Semi-refined Paraffin Wax: This type of wax is less refined than fully refined paraffin wax and may contain some impurities. It has a slightly lower melting point than fully refined paraffin wax and is often used in container candles.
- Microcrystalline Wax: This type of wax has a higher melting point than paraffin wax and is more flexible, making it ideal for use in wax blends for pillar candles and other molded candles.
- Gel Wax: Gel wax is a transparent, jelly-like substance that is used to make clear or translucent candles. It is made from mineral oil and a polymer, and has a high melting point.
- Blended Paraffin Wax: Blended paraffin wax is a mixture of different types of paraffin wax and other additives, such as stearic acid or microcrystalline wax. It is often used to create custom candle formulations with specific melting points, color, and fragrance characteristics.
The type of paraffin wax used in a candle will affect its burning characteristics, such as the amount of soot produced, the scent throw, and the overall burn time. It is important to select the right type of wax for a particular candle-making project in order to achieve the desired results.
