Persian backgammon - Takhte Nard
Persian backgammon, also known as "Takhteh-Nard ," is a traditional board game that originated in Iran and is a variant of the popular game of backgammon. It is played on a board with 24 narrow triangles or points, known as "pockets," that alternate in color between black and white.
The game is typically played by two players, each with 15 pieces or checkers of their own color, which are moved around the board based on the roll of two dice. The objective of the game is to move all of one's checkers off the board before the opponent does the same.
One of the unique features of Persian backgammon is the board itself, which is often made of wood or inlaid with intricate designs and patterns, such as floral motifs or calligraphy. The game is also played with specialized dice that are often handmade and feature symbols or letters rather than traditional numbers.
Persian backgammon has a long history in Iran and is still a popular game today, often played in cafes, parks, and homes throughout the country. It is also popular in other parts of the Middle East and Central Asia and has gained a following among enthusiasts of traditional board games around the world.
