Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty, also known as the "Statue of Liberty Enlightening the World," is a famous symbol of freedom and democracy located on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, USA. The statue was a gift from France to the United States in 1886 to commemorate the centennial of American independence.
The statue was designed by French sculptor Frédéric Auguste Bartholdi and its metal framework was designed by Gustave Eiffel, the same engineer who later designed the Eiffel Tower. The statue stands at 151 feet tall, with an additional 154 feet of pedestal, making it one of the tallest statues in the world.
The statue is a representation of the Roman goddess Libertas, who was a symbol of freedom and democracy in ancient Rome. The statue is depicted holding a torch in one hand and a tablet in the other, upon which is inscribed the date of American independence in Roman numerals.
The Statue of Liberty has become an iconic symbol of the United States and is visited by millions of people each year. It is a symbol of hope, freedom, and democracy not only for Americans, but for people all over the world.
