Syrian tavla

Syrian tavla, also known as backgammon, is a popular board game in Syria and throughout the Middle East. It is similar to the Western version of backgammon, but with some differences in rules and gameplay.

Syrian tavla is played on a board with 24 narrow triangles, known as points, arranged in two rows of 12. The points are alternately colored in white and black or red and black. The game is played with two players, each with 15 checkers of their own color, which are moved according to the roll of two dice.

The object of the game is to move all of your checkers around the board and into your home board, and then bear them off the board before your opponent does the same. Points can be blocked by two or more checkers of the same color, which makes it more difficult for your opponent to move their checkers.

Syrian tavla boards are often beautifully crafted from wood, with intricate inlays and carvings. They may also be decorated with traditional Syrian motifs and designs, such as geometric patterns, calligraphy, and images of historic landmarks.

Playing Syrian tavla is a popular pastime in Syria and other countries in the region, and it is often played in homes, cafes, and other social settings. It is a fun and challenging game that requires strategy, skill, and a bit of luck, and it is enjoyed by people of all ages and backgrounds.
